TIME CLAUSES
Look at the following sentence paying special attention to the phrase typed out in bold. Which option would you mark as the correct one ?
I will have read this book by the time they 1) will ask for it /2) ask for it.
Note: After time expressions like by the time, until, before, when, after, as long as, as=while etc. we use present tenses because they introduce time clauses.

Note: *WHEN can be used as both a time conjunction and question word. As a time conjunction, it goes with the present tense e.g.: Give me a call when you arrive.
As a question word, it may go with will e.g.:
It’s difficult to say when he’ll give the money back.
