'''Read the text about crime and mystery fiction and answer the questions.'''
Crime and mystery fiction
Detective stories are the classic kind of mystery novels. The first detective stories in English were written by the American author Edgar Allan Poe. They were published in the 1840s. Perhaps the most famous detective of all times is Sherlock Holmes. He was created by the British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The stories of Holmes’s adventures were narrated by his friend, Dr. Watson. Other famous detectives are Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. They are characters in the novels by Agatha Christie, an English novelist who wrote a large number of mystery stories.
Mystery stories also include spy stories. Ian Fleming, an English author, created the secret agent James Bond. One of the Bond novels is From Russia, with Love, which came out in 1957. Other famous British authors of spy novels are John Le Carré, Len Deighton, Frederick Forsyth, and Ken Follett. Robert Ludlum is a very well-known American author of spy fiction.
