Can you hear the different sounds before –ed?
In the words begged and stayed the sound is voiced. So –ed is also voiced and pronounced as [d].
In the word worked it is [k], a voiceless consonant. So –ed is also voiceless and pronounced as [k].
However, if the word ends in the same sound [t] or [d], as in wait and add, there is an extra vowel to make the ending clear and it is pronounced as [it] or [id]
