Look at these examples.
1. What time are you leaving tomorrow?
2. What time does the train leave tomorrow?
1. We’re going to the show tonight.
2. The show starts at 8.30.
In sentence 1 the present continuous is used because we’re talking about the arranged plans. In sentence 2, however, the simple present is used to talk about the future. Can you guess why?
The simple present is used when we talk about programs (shows, films) and timetables (trains, buses, planes). We can also use it to talk about your plans if they are fixed like a timetable.
He starts his new job tomorrow.
What time do you start work tomorrow?
