FUTURE PERFECT & FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOS

Future Perfect Form:Future Perfect Continuous Form:
  • Positive: He/She/They will (‘ll) have finished.
  • Negative: He/She/They will not (won’t) have finished.
  • Question: Will he/she/they have finished?
  • Short Answer: Yes, he/she/they will./ No, he/she/they won’t.


  • Positive: I/You/We will (‘ll) have been studying
  • Negative: I/You/We will not (won’t) have been studying
  • Question: Will I/you/we have been studying?
  • Short Answer: Yes, I/you/we will./ No, I/you/we won’t.

TIME CLAUSES

Look at the following sentence paying special attention to the phrase typed out in bold. Which option would you mark as the correct one ?

I will have read this book by the time they 1) will ask for it /2) ask for it.

Note: After time expressions like by the time, until, before, when, after, as long as, as=while etc. we use present tenses because they introduce time clauses.

Note: *WHEN can be used as both a time conjunction and question word. As a time conjunction, it goes with the present tense e.g.: Give me a call when you arrive.

As a question word, it may go with will e.g.:

It’s difficult to say when he’ll give the money back.
