Read the following comments on language learning, and answer the questions below:

Try out your new language at every opportunity:
a) Try out your new language at every opportunity. To stop people from speaking English to you, either to be helpful or simply to practise their English, make sure you know how to say e.g. 'I'm learning Italian' or 'I'd prefer to speak in Spanish.'

b) I learn German, French and Spanish. I always meet people who speak one of these languages and they always want to speak to me in English instead... I should definitely prepare these phrases.

c) I'm learning Spanish together with my family. We have decided to learn together and use Spanish whenever possible around the house. It's going well because we are using the language on a frequent basis and so it's easier to remember key words and phrases.

d) Keep fit and learn. This method has worked for me. Go for a walk and think inside your head what you would say in the language you are learning. For example, you are at the station and need to buy a ticket, buy it and, afterwards, think “What would I have said in the other language?”. You can window shop and learn the shopping objects, for example. Just picture yourself in that foreign situation to boost your learning. If that is too easy, then mentally practise the conjugation of those nasty verbs in these virtual situations.
